NEMRA Lighting Postpones Inaugural Summit to Refocus on Education and Industry Development
NEMRA Lighting has postponed its inaugural NEMRA Lighting Summit after gathering feedback from agency leaders and manufacturers across the lighting channel.
In a letter to members, NEMRA President and CEO James C. Johnson said the organization spent several months collecting input. The goal was to determine what would provide the greatest value to representatives, manufacturers, and other industry stakeholders.
Members Want More Educational Content
The feedback revealed strong support for NEMRA Lighting and its long-term mission. Members also supported the idea of a dedicated lighting industry event.
However, many participants asked for a different focus. They wanted more education, leadership development, professional training, industry insights, and discussions about emerging technologies.
As a result, NEMRA Lighting and its Lighting Advisory Council decided to postpone the Summit and reevaluate its structure.
“This is not a step back. It is a deliberate step forward,” Johnson wrote.
Building a Stronger Industry Event
According to Johnson, the organization wants to create more than another industry gathering. Its goal is to build a premier event that delivers measurable value to the lighting channel.
Leaders believe additional planning will help ensure the Summit meets member expectations. They also believe the delay will strengthen the event’s long-term success.
The decision reflects a broader trend in the industry. Many professionals now seek practical business knowledge and leadership skills in addition to networking opportunities.
Virtual Programs Planned for Fall
While NEMRA reimagines the Summit, the organization plans to launch a series of virtual programs this fall.
Those programs will focus on industry trends, leadership development, professional education, and business resources. NEMRA Lighting hopes the online sessions will provide immediate value while planning continues for future events.
The organization and its Advisory Council also plan to keep engaging members throughout the lighting ecosystem. Those conversations will help shape future programming and event opportunities.
Listening to the Membership
Johnson emphasized that the decision reflects NEMRA Lighting’s commitment to listening to its members.
Rather than moving forward with an event that may not meet expectations, the organization chose wisely to pause and refine its vision. NEMRA Lighting expects to share additional details about future programs and event plans in the coming months.
