Today in Lighting — Thursday, July 2, 2026
Sponsored by Luminii — Great lighting comes together through every layer, not just one fixture.

Here are the stories making news.

Last week I participated in an IES past president’s call — IES is now reporting its first membership growth since 2019, strong conference demand, and a financial surplus. The Society is expanding globally, adding staff, and preparing for a near sellout at the Annual Conference, signaling renewed momentum across operations and programs. Congratulations to Colleen and the IES team.

LEDucation 2027 is seeking speaker proposals for its expanded program, adding virtual and in-person sessions across five days. Topics focus on industry trends, sustainability, and technology, with submissions due 15 September. Details on designinglighting.com.

A moving Vietnam War memorial featuring 58,307 suspended dog tags — one for each American service member who died — has gained renewed attention ahead of Independence Day, serving as a powerful tribute to the human cost of war. We share a link to the video on EdisonReport.com.

This is the last episode of Today in Lighting this week, as the EdisonReport team will be taking tomorrow off to observe Independence Day. We wish you and your family a safe, healthy, and restful holiday weekend — we’ll be back on Monday.

Yesterday the Dow dropped 14, NASDAQ was down 174. Penguin Solutions, the company that owns Cree LED, was down almost 10%.
