The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office (BTO) has introduced the BENEFIT 2024 funding opportunity, allocating up to $30 million across nine key areas to drive advancements in building decarbonization. With residential and commercial buildings accounting for a substantial portion of energy consumption and carbon emissions, this initiative aims to improve energy efficiency, lower costs of retrofitting building envelopes and lighting, and enhance building resilience.

Additionally, it supports the Affordable Home Energy Shot™ to reduce the cost of decarbonizing affordable housing. The BENEFIT 2024 FOA offers opportunities for innovators in areas such as commercial lighting retrofits, HVAC equipment, and more, with the goal of promoting equitable clean energy solutions and supporting the Energy Earthshot™ initiatives.

Interested parties can apply through the EERE eXCHANGE online portal. The deadline for submitting a concept paper is December 18, 2023.
