I attended a live presentation at the Zumtobel/Thorn/Tridonic building. They occupy the entire first floor of the Forum. Over 40 members of the media were invited, and it seems like over 100 showed up. The event was held in English, but the audience received headsets for interpretations.
Zumtobel made headlines by unveiling the world’s largest continuous ceiling light—a record-breaking endeavor confirmed by an official from Guinness World Records. The installation spans an impressive 45 meters in length and 4.5 meters in width, covering an area just over 200 square meters. The fabric used for the ceiling light weighs in at 100 kilograms, and Zumtobel expressed confidence in their ability to construct such pieces up to 100 meters in length as a single entity. This installation is not only an engineering feat but also an acoustic solution that enhances the atmosphere of the space, featuring dynamic color changes throughout the presentation. Dubbed as a new generation of ‘functional lighting systems,’ the textile stretches 45 meters by 4.5 meters and was introduced as a one-piece fabric.
Wolfgang Marzin, President and CEO of Messe Frankfurt, attended the event and shared his remarks on this significant achievement.
Zumtobel Group CEO, Thomas Koenig, announced another accolade—the Light + Building award for the most sustainable booth. Following this, Clause Diener, VP of R&D for Lighting Brands, unveiled Keyture, an innovative concept coined from the words ‘Key’ and ‘Feature.’ Keyture is set to enhance the IoT capabilities of Thorn and Zumtobel lighting solutions. Diener’s presentation honed in on three pivotal areas: ‘smart space,’ ‘smart lighting,’ and ‘smart emergency,’ highlighting Siemens’ integral role as a strategic partner in these ventures.
