Get a Grip on Lighting Announces The Farewell Series

St. Paul, Minnesota – After eight years of fearless conversation and industry-shaping insight, Get a Grip on Lighting, hosted by Michael Colligan and Greg Ehrich, and produced by Scott Watcher and Scott Griffin, is bringing its groundbreaking run to a close with The Farewell Series (2017–2025).

The six-part livestream event will air Wednesdays at 3:00 PM Eastern, beginning November 19th, with each session released as a podcast the following Thursday. Across the series, Colligan and Ehrich will reflect on eight years of dialogue that helped reshape how the lighting industry talks about itself — and where it’s going next.

Since its launch in 2017, Get a Grip on Lighting has become the most influential podcast network in the lighting industry, known for its honest, unscripted conversations and commitment to elevating the people behind the products.

From 2019 to 2025, Get a Grip on Lighting also managed the National Association of Innovative Lighting Distributors (NAILD), leading the organization through a period of transformation and growth. Under their direction, NAILD expanded its educational reach, modernized its events, and reestablished itself as a hub for independent distributors navigating an evolving lighting landscape.

During that time, Get a Grip on Lighting partnered with NAILD to create an entire network of industry-focused shows, all developed in collaboration with and owned by NAILD, including:

  • Starving for Darkness / Restoring Darkness — confronting the lighting industry’s role in light pollution and championing the preservation and restoration of the natural night.
  • The Lighting Controls Podcast — hosted by Webster Marsh and Ron Kuszmar, diving deep into the technologies that drive intelligent lighting systems.
  • The Lighting Industry News Brief — delivering fast, informed updates to professionals every week.
  • Many collaborations with TED Magazine (tEDmag and lighTEDmag) and other media platforms that have amplified diverse and emerging voices across the lighting community.

“We set out to start a conversation, and what happened was a movement,” said host Michael Colligan. “Many from the frontlines of the lighting industry found their voice, and we’re proud to have been a part of that.”

“This isn’t just our farewell,” added Greg Ehrich. “It’s a celebration of everyone who’s contributed ideas, shared their stories, and made this community what it is.”

The Farewell Series will stream live on Wednesdays at 3:00 PM Eastern on YouTube and LinkedIn Live, with podcast episodes dropping the following Thursday. Each episode will feature guests, memories, and reflections on the innovation, controversy, and camaraderie that defined Get a Grip on Lighting.
