Trevose, PA — Evenlite, a trusted leader in emergency lighting solutions, has released a new white paper examining inverter system battery technologies. The report compares existing options while highlighting recent advances in lithium battery design. Together, these insights support Evenlite’s expanding inverter systems product strategy.
The Future of Emergency Power
According to the white paper, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) batteries are the most future-ready option for lighting inverter systems. Compared with traditional valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries, LiFePO₄ delivers improved safety, longer service life, and better space efficiency.
When paired with a high-quality battery management system (BMS), LiFePO₄ eliminates the risk of thermal runaway. In addition, these batteries typically last 10–15 years. As a result, they can require up to 50 percent less space than VRLA batteries with the same capacity.
Lower Total Cost of Ownership Over Time
At first glance, LiFePO₄ batteries have a higher upfront cost. However, the white paper shows they offer the lowest total cost of ownership over the life of the system.
In contrast, VRLA batteries usually last only 4–6 years. That shorter lifespan leads to more frequent replacements and higher maintenance costs. Meanwhile, LiFePO₄ systems often operate for more than a decade. Over time, fewer replacements and lower service needs reduce overall costs.
Battery Management Systems Are Essential
A reliable battery management system is critical for LiFePO₄ inverter systems. Without it, safety and performance cannot be guaranteed.
Specifically, the BMS protects against overcharging and overheating. It also extends battery life and ensures proper communication with the inverter. For example, individual cell monitoring and balancing help maintain consistent performance across the battery pack.
Upcoming AIA-Accredited Presentation
To continue the conversation, Evenlite invites industry professionals to attend an upcoming AIA-accredited presentation. The session, Battery Technologies in Life Safety Systems: Evaluating Today’s Options and the Path Forward, will review recent battery innovations.
During the presentation, attendees will also compare LiFePO₄ technology with existing inverter battery solutions. In doing so, the session will address both safety considerations and real-world performance.
