Meteor Lighting’s Architectural High Bay Whiz Series is Now Available with UL 924 Certification

INDUSTRY, California – August 9th, 2019. Meteor Lighting customers can now be rest assured that the company has an immediate solution when adhering to the latest National Electrical code standards. The Flagship Whiz series, which are Architectural High Ceiling luminaires now both have UL 924 listings.

Furthermore, the company also has 4 more High Ceiling luminaires currently in the application process which will allow Meteor to have over 5 luminaires that meet UL 924 certification.

Phil Lee, Technical Director from Meteor Lighting shares that “Our customers have always asked about the the 2014 and 2017 National Electrical Code which detail regulations regarding emergency lighting circuits – specifically Directly Controlled Luminaires. While the reasons are unclear, it is evident that other luminaire manufacturers are very slow to achieve UL924 listings for products that are used as emergency Directly Controlled Luminaires. This has caused significant frustration among our customers, more specifically the engineers and lighting designers I talk to everyday who are responsible for designing projects.”

What does it actually say?

ARTICLE 700.24 and 700.2 definitions clearly state that “Where emergency illumination is provided by one or more directly controlled luminaires that respond to an external control input to bypass normal control upon loss of normal power, such luminaires and external bypass controls shall be individually listed for use in emergency systems.”

Emergency Lighting, are you doing it right?

Emergency lighting is a vital part of every facility’s life safety program. Local, state and national building codes such as the NFPA, Life Safety Code and National Electrical Code, require reliable emergency illumination for a minimum of 90 minutes in all commercial, industrial and institutional buildings in the United States. LED fixtures serving as emergency units must, therefore, must meet UL 924 emergency lighting requirements. Any lighting fixture that has a 0-10V or digital control input such as DMX-512 and is used in an emergency lighting circuit, must be qualified to UL924. This is to ensure that a light fixture used in an emergency circuit will perform appropriately under emergency conditions.

If it’s not UL 924 certified, don’t use it for emergency lighting!

Designers now looking for lighting solutions that are Aesthetic and Powerful can now count on Meteor Lighting to provide UL 924 certified luminaires for High Ceiling lighting. The 5 luminaires have a lumen range from 12,400 – 68,000 lumens. All of them can meet minimum lighting levels and overriding controls in emergency mode to light the path of egress in the event of an emergency, increasing the safety of occupants.
