The Pulse of the Lighting Industry Largely As Expected in Q2’22

Channel Marketing Group, sponsored by William Blair, has released the results of their Q2’22 Pulse of Lighting survey. The survey had 226 respondents, consisting of distributors, manufacturers, and lighting agents/reps. The survey provides insight into the state of the industry amongst emerging challenges and unforeseen circumstances. Below are some highlights reported from the three groups of those surveyed.

Distributors

  • Reported sales increase of 9.42% YOY, nearly meeting the projected increase of 10.2%.
  • 84.6% reported growth exceeding 5%, up from Q1.
  • 78% reported increase in backlog, up 15%.

Manufacturers

  • Reported sales increase of 7.64% YOY. Did not meet the projection of 10.1%.
  • Majority saw growth in the 5-9% range.
  • With price increases, hard to tell how much real growth is happening.

Reps/Agents

  • Reported sales increase of 7.47%, nearly meeting the projected increase of 8.8%.
  • Sales performance is diverse amongst organizations, but most fall in the 5-9% range of growth.
  • Projected Q3’22 growth is 8.4%, in line with manufacturer expectations.
