Kevin House, Professor at Oregon State University, received the prestigious IES Medal last week at IES 25 The Lighting Conference. Unfortunately, Kevin is in China through early September, spending time with family while working remotely on a part-time basis. Since he was not able to receive the honor in person, he sent the following statement to the EdisonReport.
“Being recognized with the IES Medal Award has prompted much healthy reflection and waves of gratitude. I have been fortunate to work with so many talented students and professional colleagues—indeed, none of the accomplishments that garnered this recognition were mine alone. I’ve learned as much from students as they have from me, just as I’ve learned as much from my research partners as I’ve offered in return. Mentorship flows both ways, just as research results, problem-solving, and discoveries emerge from collaboration. Throughout my career, IES has been a constant thread—colleagues have become lifelong friends, we’ve shared our passion for the value of light and lighting, and IES has provided durable pathways to societal impact. I’m looking forward to contributing more, with the best yet to come!”
The IES Medal is the top technical award presented by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) to recognize significant, meritorious technical achievements that have advanced the field, art, or knowledge of illuminating engineering. Established in 1944, the award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the science and profession of lighting, with past recipients including prominent figures in the lighting industry.
