CIMCON Adds GPS to Controllers

BOSTONMarch 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — CIMCON Lighting, Inc., the world’s leading provider of intelligent, web-based Wireless Outdoor Lighting Management Systems, today announced that it has incorporated GPS capabilities into its iSLC series of Street and Roadway Lighting controllers.

As the leader in street light management and control, CIMCON Lighting recognized a critical customer need for Street Lights to be able to auto-detect their exact location and inform the central management server to ensure efficient management and maintenance following initial installation. The availability of GPS capabilities within CIMCON’s street light controllers eliminates the problems that can arise at the time of commissioning, including inaccurate recording of pole coordinates, assignment of coordinates to another pole, loss of coordinate information and lack of correlation between the street light controller ID and the pole ID. The inclusion of GPS capabilities in CIMCON’s iSLC street light controllers eliminates these potential problems and automatically detects and positions each street light within CIMCON’s LightingGale™ Google Maps interface within seconds of installation, thus totally eliminating the need for manual recording.

“The addition of GPS capabilities and their ability to eliminate the need for manual position recording makes CIMCON’s street light controllers truly ‘plug and play,'” said Anil Agrawal, Director, CIMCON Lighting. “We had hesitated to add this capability until now, recognizing that the addition of GPS capabilities will add some initial cost to the lighting controllers and given that Street Lights are stationary objects; however, based on customer feedback, we know that reduced installation costs far outweigh the initial investment.”
