WAC Deters Knock-offs with Legal Victories

Port Washington, New York – To protect its distribution partners and discourage companies from introducing lighting fixtures that erode the value of its patented technologies, WAC has pursued both importers and B2C direct sellers of products that infringe its patents.

WAC became a market leader in LED lighting solutions through its strong commitment to innovation.  Since its founding in New York over 35 years ago, WAC has operated at the forefront of emerging technologies, investing in research and development to create new designs and breakthroughs that have helped the company grow into the success it is today.  However, should the market value of its inventions deteriorate as a result of infringing competition, it would become untenable to continue investing in innovation to the detriment of the lighting industry.

“Without market support of our products,” explains WAC President and Co-CEO Shelley Wald, “we would not be able to invest in the research and engineering that is necessary to provide innovative solutions. We promise to protect these investments and the customers who continue to support our commitment to innovation.”

In this spirit, WAC has been legally pursuing companies that sell products that infringe WAC’s intellectual property. As a result, this year alone, Lumien Lighting, a subsidiary of Jiangsu Sur Lighting Co., Constellation Pro of Global Outdoor Living, and Dabmar Lighting, have all agreed to stop selling products that infringe the patents that protect WAC’s groundbreaking Landscape Lighting line.  Also, earlier this year, WAC filed a lawsuit against CAST Lighting in the U.S. District Court in the District of New Jersey, asserting patent infringement of U.S. Patent No. 10,571,101 by CAST Lighting landscape accent lights, which CAST Lighting buys from a Chinese manufacturer WONKA Shenzhen Wanjia Lighting Co., Ltd. and sells in the U.S under its own Source Lighting brand.

You should be aware.  Anyone – whether buyer, reseller, or distributor – who buys or sells products that infringe WAC’s many patents should realize that WAC is prepared to protect its intellectual property rights, including seeking an injunction and damages to prevent any further sale of infringing products in the United States.

“Put simply, infringing products erode our brands along with our ability to invest in research and development,” continued Mrs. Wald.  “WAC is determined to put a stop to any unauthorized copying or stealing of its patented technology and will pursue such infringement to the furthest extent allowable under the law.”
