Federal Circuit Affirms Validity and Infringement Rulings on Super Lighting’s Shock-Prevention Patent, Reinforces Its Leadership in LED Safety Technology
Jiaxing, China – July 31, 2025 – The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a ruling on July 28, 2025, in the patent litigation between Jiaxing Super Lighting Electric Appliance Co. and its North American affiliate, Obert Inc. (collectively, “Super Lighting”), and CH Lighting Technology Co., along with its customer distributors (collectively, “CH Lighting”). The court upheld Super Lighting’s victory on its shock-prevention patent, confirming the patent’s validity and CH Lighting’s infringement. At the same time, the court vacated the validity rulings for two LED tube structure patents due to procedural issues and remanded those matters to the district court for further proceedings.
The case was originally filed in 2020 by Super Lighting and Obert, alleging that CH Lighting and its distributors infringed three U.S. patents related to LED lighting: two patents covering LED tube structural designs—U.S. Patent Nos. 10,295,125 (the “’125 Patent”) and 10,352,540 (the “’540 Patent”)—and one patent covering shock-prevention detection technology used during installation—U.S. Patent No. 9,939,140 (the “’140 Patent”). During the first trial, CH Lighting admitted to infringing the ’125 and ’540 Patents, while a jury found infringement of the ’140 Patent and awarded approximately $13.87 million in damages, which was later doubled to roughly $27.7 million based on a finding of willful infringement.
In its appellate ruling, the Federal Circuit affirmed the jury’s finding that the shock-prevention patent was valid and infringed, rejecting CH Lighting’s invalidity arguments based on prior art. However, the court vacated the district court’s validity rulings on the two LED tube structure patents and remanded them for retrial.
Industry observers noted the decision confirms Super Lighting’s victory on its shock-prevention safety patent, underscoring CH Lighting’s infringement of the technology while reinforcing Super Lighting’s leadership in LED lighting safety. The ruling is widely seen as an important affirmation of Super Lighting’s ongoing patent strategy and technical strength, while also highlighting the broader importance of safety-focused innovations within the lighting industry.
