Sponsored by ArchLIGHT Summit and DALI Alliance — Where lighting leaders gather this September.

Here are the stories making news, coming to you from Gainesville, Georgia.

I’m in Gainesville because I attended the hearing between Signify and ETI — a Markman hearing where the parties agree on, or the judge rules on, certain definitions of terms. It was a fascinating discussion and the attorneys on both sides do not like each other very much. It got a little contentious at the end of the day, and I will have an article on this later this week.

Yesterday we published the September issue of Designing Lighting, featuring a stunning 1,300-fixture landscape transformation, lighting’s role in health and healing, the Light Justice NOW Awards, and one of my favorite articles — about a bridge destroyed in Ukraine during the war that Ukraine has stitched together using light. I have committed to visit that project in Ukraine when the war ends. Visit designinglighting.com to read the full issue.

The IES26 Illumination Awards drew nearly 600 project submissions and a sold-out gala of 340 attendees. I interviewed chair Amanda Schaneman and Denis Lavoie — they discussed judging, international growth, and plans to elevate this prestigious program. During the awards, 17 projects were honored, with the Brooklyn Paramount, Memorial Brumadinho, SCADstory, and USA Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka earning top Awards of Distinction for exceptional lighting design.

Yesterday the Dow was up 160 points, NASDAQ gained 171, and LSI was up $16. We also received some tragic news — the passing of Dolly Parton. As a Tennessean, we all love Dolly, and she was a very special person to us. Rest in peace, Dolly.
